ADNOC Drilling announced the delivery and acceptance of AD-300 on June 25, 2026. The company described the unit as its first AI-enabled, fully automated walking island rig, delivered nearly three months ahead of schedule. It is the first of six rigs in the program. The release describes automated pipe handling, digital monitoring and hybrid power capability, including an option for grid connection. Read ADNOC Drilling's original release.

Configuration records matter on automated rigs

For equipment buyers, the announcement highlights a practical issue: a rig is a collection of interconnected systems. Automation does not remove the need to identify the mechanical component, its interfaces and the configuration in which it operates. It makes a clear equipment record especially useful when maintenance, engineering and purchasing teams exchange information.

Keep mechanical identity and control requirements connected

When a maintenance team raises an inquiry for drawworks components, the useful starting point is the installed assembly and its documented references. A part number, drawing revision and equipment identification allow a supplier to understand the request. Where a replacement interacts with controls, monitoring or another assembly, the responsible engineering team must also define the required interfaces and acceptance criteria.

A commercial offer should show which technical requirements it addresses and which remain unresolved. A shared product name or a similar photograph does not establish interchangeability. Nor should an inquiry for a mechanical wear part be treated automatically as a request to modify the rig's control system.

For an independent fleet requirement, our drilling rig and drawworks parts pages provide a starting point for a component discussion. Include the installed equipment reference and available technical documents so the scope can be assessed before a quotation is treated as a match.
