Drawworks Brake Band Parts: What to Include in an RFQ

Published by Pratt Oil ·

A useful drawworks brake inquiry begins with the installed equipment identity and the exact item required. A complete brake band, a set of friction blocks and a brake drum are different purchase items. Before requesting a quotation, separate those requirements and gather the available part references. This guide explains how to prepare that information without treating a photograph or a rig model as proof of compatibility.

Confirm which brake arrangement is installed

NOV’s drawworks catalog lists several brake technologies, including band brakes and hydraulic caliper disc brakes. That distinction matters before building a parts list. Use the equipment records to identify the installed arrangement, and retain the complete drawworks designation, including any suffix. Do not assume a product is a band-brake component simply because it appears beside a drawworks drum.

Separate the assembly from its purchase items

State whether the request concerns a complete band assembly, individual friction blocks or a drum. List the required blocks, fasteners and other hardware separately, with the part number and quantity for each item. Ask the quotation to identify exactly what is included so the supplier can distinguish individual wear parts from a complete brake band assembly.

Build one identification record for each item

Record the equipment manufacturer, full model, available serial number and existing part or drawing number. Add the drawing revision if it is known. When several parts are required, give each one its own line rather than combining everything under “drawworks spares.” Keep uncertain references visibly marked as unconfirmed, so they can be resolved before an order is accepted. For several rigs, keep separate equipment references even when the requested parts look similar or appear on the same purchase requisition.

Connect photographs to the correct reference

Attach available photographs showing the overall part, identification markings and relevant attachment features. Label each file with the matching RFQ line. Existing drawings can explain details that a single photograph does not show, including the specified geometry and attachment arrangement. If a drawing is unavailable, say so; a supplier’s request for additional information is more useful than an assumed match.

Make the quotation scope easy to review

Include the quantity, delivery country and any required purchasing documents. Ask the supplier to confirm the quoted item description and reference against your submission. Pratt Oil’s band-brake parts range separates the brake band, drum and shoe entries. Use those pages to identify the purchase category, then submit the equipment information for a component-specific review.
