WCB Parts in a Drawworks Braking System: Identify Before Ordering

Published by Pratt Oil ·

When sourcing an auxiliary brake for a drawworks braking system, “WCB” is a starting point rather than a complete specification. The installed model and the requested component must be identified together. A complete brake, friction disc and wear plate are different order lines. This guide explains how to organize an inquiry using nameplate details and existing documentation, without assuming that similar size or appearance establishes compatibility.

Keep the original nameplate wording

An inquiry may refer to Eaton Airflex WCB, while current official information is published as Airflex by Danfoss. Send a readable copy of the installed nameplate and retain its wording. Do not replace an older designation with a newer family name in the RFQ.

Record the complete variant and configuration

The manufacturer’s model-code guide distinguishes WCB2, WCBD, WCB3 and WCBH, with separate configuration fields. Copy the full designation rather than shortening it to WCB. Include the manufacturer part number and available assembly drawing. A matching nominal diameter is useful information, but it is not enough to establish that two parts from different variants can be exchanged.

Distinguish friction discs from wear plates

The official WCB2 and WCBD catalog lists friction-disc components, wear plates, cylinders, seals and release springs separately. Keep these component names distinct in your request. If an old purchasing record says only “brake friction parts,” clarify which item it describes. Attach the available component reference so the supplier can connect the requested item to the documented assembly.

Give each item a traceable RFQ line

For each component, provide the full brake identification, existing part reference, quantity and supporting photograph or drawing. Add the revision of the document when known. Ask the quotation to state the component description, specification and supplied contents. If a reference cannot be confirmed, flag it openly rather than filling the gap with a part number taken from another brake. This is particularly helpful when an equipment file contains several generations of drawings or earlier quotations.

Use the product range to organize the inquiry

Pratt Oil’s WCB parts category separates complete brake assemblies from friction discs, wear plates, seals, springs and cylinders. Use these entries to describe what is required, then send the installed equipment information for review.
