Locate the seat in the assembly drawing
Find the valve position in the manufacturer’s parts drawing and record the corresponding seat reference. Identify which items you need: a seat, a valve assembly, an insert or associated components shown in that assembly. Separating these items helps make the quotation request clear.
NOV’s Mission guide describes several drilling-valve configurations, including full-open and cross-arm designs. Use the documented configuration to organise your inquiry.
Collect the valve and seat references together
Record both references even when you initially need only one component. Include any assembly number, revision or marking that appears in the documentation. Clear photographs of the existing valve, seat and markings can supplement the drawing.
NOV describes a valve and its own seat developing associated wear patterns. Its Type P booklet also discusses keeping the appropriate valve and seat together. Have the replacement arrangement reviewed against the applicable model manual and parts references.
Describe the insert and service conditions
Include the required insert specification if your parts list states one. Record the fluid type and documented service temperature, together with any material requirement provided by your equipment documentation.
NOV’s guide discusses heat and fluid chemistry among the factors affecting valve inserts. A colour description can help identify the photographed component, but the specified material and part reference still need confirmation. Describe visible damage for review without assuming that a photograph establishes its cause.
Build a complete seat inquiry
Prepare a short component list with the evidence available for each line:
- Pump manufacturer, complete model and fluid-end reference.
- Valve and seat part numbers, with their drawing positions.
- Assembly drawing and any documented dimensions.
- Insert, spring or guide references where these are requested.
- Quantity of each item and delivery destination.
Keep original markings and suffixes in the request. If the seat number is unreadable, mark its position on the drawing and provide clear photographs alongside the available records.
Confirm the proposed replacement
Use our mud pump valve references and valve assembly reference to prepare your parts list. Confirm the valve-and-seat references, configuration and requested quantities with the quotation. Installation or repair decisions should follow the current instructions for the identified equipment.
